Cathie Fights for X2 Bus Service

Local Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Cathie Craigie has accepted petitions from constituents who have been affected byt he cancellation of the X2 bus service.

The off-peak X2 service which ran from Carrickstone to Glasgow was used by many local people and has caused real concern in the area.

Cathie received the petition from the concerned residents on Friday 23rd of October and the service ended on the 24th.

Cathie said:

"I have been working with Councillor Barry McCulloch and we have both been in contact with First Bus regarding this issue."

"Getting rid of the X2 off-peak service without having a viable alternative in place is disgraceful. First Bus are completely disregarding local rsidents who rely on this vital service to and from Glasgow. They are literally abandoning those who do not have access to a car."

"I am joining local people in demanding that First Bus reinstate the off-peak X2 service, or provide a suitable replacement as soon as possible and I have called a public meeting with First Bus to address the concerns of those who have been affected."

Councillor Barry McCulloch added:

"The cancellation of this service will have a serious impact on the daily lives of many in the area. Hospital appointments in the Royal Infirmary, Southern General and other Glasgow hospitals may have to be missed as many, who rely on this service, will find it difficult to get there. This particularly affects the elderly and those who do not have access to a car and I urge First Bus to reconsider their decision."

The public meeting will tkae place on Monday 9th of November 2009 at 7pm in Eastfield Primary School. Cathie Craigie will chair the meeting and representatives from First Bus will be in attendance.
