| Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Cathie Craigie welcomed Cumbernauld hero Brooke O'Brien and her mother Donna to the Scottish Parliament on Thursday November 5th.
Brooke (9) aided her mother when she fell on the Glen Orchy hills in July.
When Donna fell and broke her ankle, Brooke, unable to get a phone signal, fastened her mother's walking boots tightly and led her down the hill to camp.
Both Brooke and her mother Donna were in the Debating Chamber for First Minister's Questions, and afterwards Brooke was presented with a certificate by Cathie and Labour's Leader in the Scottish Parliament, Iain Gray.
Cathie said:
"Brooke's bravery and calmness in this situation cannot be understated.
"When she saw her mother was in serious trouble she did not hesitate to come to her aid. It was crucial that she remained composed and focused to ensure a more serious situation did not develop. This is exactly what Brooke did.
"I was proud to welcome our young, local hero to the Parliament and hope she and her mother enjoyed their day."
Labour's Leader in the Scottish Parliament, Iain Gray, also commented saying:
"It was a privilege to welcome Brooke to the Parliament. She is a very special young girl and her mother Donna must be very proud of her. To show such maturity and keep a clear head in a situation when even an adult might panic is remarkable. I was delighted to meet her."
