Labour Delivers for Local Jobs With New Budget

The Scottish budget has been passed this week at the second attempt, after opposition parties won concessions from SNP Ministers in return for their support.

Cathie Craigie MSP said:

I supported this budget because it's a better budget. Labour asked Mr Salmond to go back and do the right thing and he did so. When times are tough we need to stick together and work together to get out of it.

"As a result of Labour's action, nearly 8000 Scots will have an opportunity of an apprenticeship. If an apprentice loses their job Labour has secured a guarantee of completion of training. Labour's £60m town centre fund will be welcomed across Scotland and those who lose their jobs will get better support thanks the £50m that Labour negotiated.

"This is still an SNP budget and will not solve the challenges that Scotland faces but it is a better budget than what was offered before by the SNP. I am pleased that there now will be extra help for Scotland's young people and workers facing redundancy. At a time of economic difficulty this was the right thing to do and the SNP must realise that as a minority government they must listen to the views of the Parliament."
