| Local Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Cathie Craigie welcomes the recent decision by NHS Lanarkshire to retain full A&E services at Monklands hospital.
However, she has raised concerns, alongside fellow Labour Lanarkshire MSPs, about the willingness of the Scottish Government to provide the funding which NHS Lanarkshire says is required for A&E services to continue at Monklands.
Cathie Craigie MSP said:
"I am pleased that NHS Lanarkshire has decided to retain full A&E services at Monklands Hospital. I have always argued that it was a mistake to downgrade services at Monklands, which serves an area with some of the worst health records in Scotland. Indeed, along with my colleagues Karen Whitefield and Elaine Smith, I have long campaigned for full A&E services to be retained at Monklands."
"Clearly NHS Lanarkshire believes that funding is still a crucial issue if it is to deliver on the decision it made today. This is why Karen Whitefield, Elaine Smith and I have today written to the Health Minister, Nicola Sturgeon to ask for an urgent meeting to discuss health funding issues in Lanarkshire."
"I remain concerned for the future of Cumbernauld Casualty Unit and the new Kilsyth Health Centre. If NHS Lanarkshire are serious about providing decent healthcare for the people of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, they need to deliver a full A&E unit at Monklands, a Cumbernauld Casualty Unit and the new Kilsyth Health Centre."
