| Local Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Cathie Craigie is "astonished and angry" at the SNP's announcement to end universal access to the hugely successful free central heating programme for pensioners in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.
Cathie Craigie MSP is contacted daily by older constituents who are still waiting for their central heating installation. With the scheme in crisis, leaving local company Powersave Insulation in a precarious financial situation, the Scottish Government has reacted by cutting the number of eligible pensioners for free central heating.
This week the SNP announced central heating will in future be 'targeted' despite the repeated assertions by the First Minister that they would 'enhance and improve' the programme.
Cathie Craigie MSP said:
"I am astonished and angry that the SNP have turned their back on pensioners in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth who deserve to be warm in their own homes."
"The cut to this service which hundreds of older people locally have benefited from and hundreds more are waiting for breaks the SNP's promise to enhance and improve the service."
"You don't tackle growing waiting lists by cutting the number of people entitled to a new central heating system. This is a massive blow to local pensioners."
