| Local Labour MSP Cathie Craigie is urging workers in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth to tell her if they have suffered poor treatment at work because they are an agency worker.
Cathie joined Members of the Westminster and Holyrood Parliaments earlier this month to highlight the Temporary and Agency Workers' Rights campaign. The campaign backs legislation to tackle the abuse of agency workers and to stop unscrupulous employers using agency staff to drive down the pay and conditions of directly employed workers.
In the UK Parliament on Friday 22 February, the second reading of Andrew Miller MP's Private Member's Bill aiming to end this widespread exploitation will take place.
Cathie Craigie MSP said:
"I want the workers in my constituency to tell me about their experiences as an agency worker. Although the flexibility of temporary agency working can be a bonus, increasingly I find instances where agency working is the only option on offer. With it comes job insecurity, poorer pay, no holiday and sick pay, and even cases of pay being docked to pay for essential equipment or training."
"Every worker should be treated equally and should have access to essential basic protections. When agency labour is mistreated or being used to undercut the hard fought pay and conditions of directly employed workers, we must challenge this. Workers in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth can help with this vital campaign."
