Local Income Tax Means Super Rich Won't Pay a Penny!

Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Cathie Craigie wants the public to make their views known on proposals to replace the Council Tax with at least an extra 3p in the pound on Income Tax.

The local Labour MSP has already spoken out against the SNP Government's plans to introduce a local income tax, pointing out that it would mean hard working families would pay more while the super-rich pay could get away without paying a single penny!

Cathie Craigie MSP said:

"Under the SNP's plans for a local income tax the super-rich can end up not paying a single penny, but still getting their bins emptied as well as access to all the other services provided by North Lanarkshire Council."

"The SNP Government plans to tax people's salaries and wages, so the super rich whose income is from shares and investments would be allowed to get off scot free."

"The burden would instead fall on families, particularly where a husband and wife both work, who may have to pay hundreds of pounds more each year under a local income tax."

"The unfair local income tax will also target students with part-time or summer jobs, and families who have several working adults in a household."

"And it's also clear that the overall sums don't add up so people could pay more and get fewer services for their money. The 3p in the pound that the SNP talk about is much more likely to be 5p in the pound when the SNP finally get their facts right."

"The Scottish Government's proposals are now out for consultation and I hope that my constituents will make their views known on the SNP's unfair tax plans."
