Goldfish Jobs Announcement

Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Labour MSP Cathie Craigie welcomes the news that an expected 800 employees facing redundancy at threatened Cumbernauld employer Goldfish could have their jobs saved.

This comes after Barclaycard announced proposals in May to close the Cumbernauld customer service centre at the end of the year.

Cathie Craigie said:

"I welcome the news that Barclaycard has made an agreement with Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE) for SSE to acquire the Goldfish site at Cumbernauld. This should mean that jobs will be saved."

"I have been working hard to do all I can to try to safeguard the employment of as many of the workers at Goldfish as possible, so for around 800 of them, this is a great outcome."

"Of course, that does not detract from the loss for those who are still facing redundancy. I will continue to work with Goldfish staff, North Lanarkshire Council and others to get them the best deal possible."

"But at least we have some good news, which proves, as I have always believed, that the Goldfish customer service centre and most importantly its staff are assets to our community."
